The Opportunity
Are you a linguist with the energy to bring the Hispanic world to life, a passion for phonetics, and the belief that every student in Rochdale deserves a global perspective?
We are seeking an enthusiastic and articulate Spanish Teacher to join a collaborative MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) department in Rochdale. Nestled at the foothills of the South Pennines with a rich textile heritage and a diverse, multicultural population, this school is looking for a specialist who can inspire students to look beyond their horizon—from the vibrant streets of Madrid to the diverse landscapes of Latin America.
Core Responsibilities
Pedagogical Excellence: Planning and delivering high-energy, communicative lessons across KS3 & KS4, with potential opportunities to lead A-Level Spanish groups.
Target Language Mastery: Creating an immersive environment by using Spanish as the primary medium of instruction, encouraging students to build spontaneous speaking confidence from Year 7 onwards.
Cultural Enrichment: Integrating authentic Hispanic culture—including film, music, literature, and gastronomy—into the curriculum to foster a genuine curiosity and global citizenship.
Linguistic Scaffolding: Implementing evidence-based methodologies (such as EPI or Sentence Builders) to ensure students master complex Spanish grammar and the "rolling R" of Castilian and Latin American phonics.
Exam Mastery: Guiding GCSE cohorts through the AQA or Pearson Edexcel specifications, utilising rigorous listening, reading, and translation practice to secure outstanding results.
International Links: Supporting extracurricular initiatives, such as Spanish film clubs, tapas workshops, and potential international trips or virtual exchanges.
Why This School?
Rochdale’s Community Spirit: Work in a town known for its pioneering history and strong community bonds, where the school serves as a hub for aspiration and social mobility.
Collaborative MFL Faculty: Join a supportive team that values "shared planning" and the exchange of creative resources to manage workload effectively.
Modern Language Facilities: Benefit from dedicated MFL classrooms equipped with the latest interactive technology and digital language-learning platforms (e.g., Sentence Builders, Languagenut, or This is Language).
Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD in Second Language Acquisition, external examiner training, and clear pathways to Head of MFL or Leading Practitioner roles.
Candidate Profile
Qualification: QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) and a strong honours degree in Spanish or a related Modern Languages discipline.
Subject Knowledge: Near-native fluency in Spanish and a deep understanding of the pedagogical tools required to make a foreign language accessible to all learners.
Pedagogy: A proven track record of facilitating strong student progress and a commitment to inclusive, high-challenge teaching.
Character: A resilient, creative, and charismatic educator who can build rapport with students and champion the importance of languages in a post-Brexit economy.
